Annual Trends

In 2025, the cumulative number of visitors to tourist facilities was approximately 1.04 billion, while the cumulative number of event participants was approximately 54.75 million. Compared with 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of visitors to tourist facilities was 13.9% lower and event participation was 20.7% lower, with both remaining below 2019 levels. Compared with 2024, the number of visitors to tourist facilities decreased by 3.7%, while event participation increased by 0.5%.
In the Tokyo islands, the number of tourists visiting the Izu Islands was approximately 372,000 in 2025, down 18.9% from 2019. By contrast, the Ogasawara Islands received approximately 30,000 tourists, up 1.9% from 2019 and slightly exceeding the pre-pandemic level.

Timing of Visits

Monthly data show that visits generally increase during the summer vacation period. In 2025, the Izu Islands recorded an annual high of 58,880 visitors in August, while the Ogasawara Islands also recorded their annual high of 4,170 visitors in August.
The Ogasawara Islands also received 4,151 visitors in March, nearly the same level as in August. In the Tokyo islands, visitor numbers tend to increase not only during the summer vacation period but also in March, which coincides with the spring vacation period.
